To add a citation to your document, select the first button "Add/Edit Citation" under the Zotero section of the toolbar. To choose the citation style that you would like to use for your document select the "Document Preferences" button, this will open a new window where you can select the citation style that you prefer. The Safari capture icon will show up as a little box to the left of the address bar.There is a Zotero plugin available for Microsoft Word, and should be installed automatically when you download the Zotero application to your computer. The Plugin will add Zotero to the toolbar options in Word, this will allow you to add citations to your document while you work. Use Control+ Click and select "Download linked file to." to save the file to your desktop or some other easy to remember location. 
Safari Connector: Depending on your settings Safari may not automatically open the file. You will now see Zotero capture icons in the address bar. Then click Install when Chrome asks if you want to install. Chrome Connector: A box will appear in the lower right hand corner of the browser asking if you want to continue. Links to install the browser connectors are found just beside the Standalone download links. 
Zotero Standalone comes with word processor plugins, so you will not need to install these. Click on the link for your operating system and follow standard procedures for installing software on your computer.
To install the Zotero Standalone software, visit the Zotero download page.The plugins are bundled with the software download. You do not have to install the word processor plugins with Zotero Standalone. (If you don't, you will just be redirected to Zotero's website.) You must have Zotero Standalone open to use the Firefox, Chrome, and Safari capture icons.
